There are different types of ulcer medication that you can take. These medications however are targeted towards specific ulcers. Therefore you should find out what your ulcer is like and then with a doctor’s advice receive the ulcer medication that you need.

There are many types of ulcer medication that you can use. These are generally antacids which are known to reduce the production of excess stomach acids. You can also use antacids that have been made from aluminum, calcium or magnesium salts. These types of ulcer medications have been a long time non prescription medicine.

When you decide to use antacids you must take only the amount that is recommended other wise these ulcer medications can cause other problems for you. In addition to antacids there are a number of other prescription ulcer medications that you can take.

Some people who get ulcers find that the cause of their ulcer especially in the stomach area is a Helicobacter pylori infection. For any ulcer that has this infection it is vital to erradicate this viral strain so that your ulcer will be removed forever.

There are a number of ulcer medications that have been known to work against the Helicobacter pylori bacteria. They usually include either an H2 receptor antagonist like famotidine which we know as Pepcid. There is also nizatidine or Axid. You can also use a proton pump inhibitor.

These ulcer medications can be Omeprazole (Prilosec) or Nexium. These proton pump inhibitors are designed to suppress acid the excess amount of stomach acid that is secreted. These ulcer medications are then combined with two other antibiotics for maximum effectiveness.

When you have completed the course of ulcer medications your doctor will have a diagnostic test done on you so that there is confirmation that the H. pylori infection is gone. Once you have received confirmation you can ask your doctor what can be done to prevent the reoccurrence of any ulcers.

However individuals who do not have any signs of H. pylori infection can be given healing ulcer medications like antacids, H2 receptor antagonists and proton pump inhibitors. To solve their ulcer problems these individuals will need long term treatment.

As ulcers are complications that we can do without in our lives it is best that we receive medical help as fast as possible. With these ulcer medications we have the ability to eradicate ulcers and their complications from our lives altogether.
