Tanning Bed Repair
Tanning Bed Repair Best Left To Professionals
By Linda Rogers
As labels on most electrically operated equipment declares, there are no user-serviceable parts inside, the same is true for tanning bed repairs. Except for changing bulbs, most repairs are best left up to a professional.
Your tanning bed is an electrical appliance. True, it probably cost more than your coffee pot, but it’s still operated by electricity. Any repairs performed improperly increase the risk of fire and personal injury. Replacing the bulbs isn’t usually a big deal. However, other problems such as replacing a ballast or a capacitor is a tanning bed repair best left for someone who has done it a few times before.
The acrylic bed sometimes becomes damaged after extended exposure to ultraviolet light and needs to be replaced. You may be able to tackle this tanning bed repair yourself but before you open your toolbox, and your wallet, you should determine if replacement is necessary. There are products on the market that may remove the scratches and bring the acrylic to a bright and clear condition. Failing that, it will probably need replaced.
Home Units Easy To Install, Tough To Repair
A typical home tanning bed is fairly easy to install, as most require a flat floor to rest on and a 110-volt electrical outlet. Set it up and plug it in and it’s ready to go. However, some of the larger units, like a 24 or 26-bulb unit, may require a 220-volt power supply. If this has to be installed, you will want to contact a licensed electrician. In some communities, this is a requirement in others it may just be a suggestion but if it’s done wrong, the fire hazard now encompasses your entire house.
Blue filter facial glass may be another tanning bed repair you can do yourself but as with changing acrylic panels care must be taken to avoid cracking them during installation. A capacitor is used in many beds to give the starter a boost of electricity when it is first turned on. This is not a tanning bed repair you should tackle on your own. Along with the ballasts, they start the bulb and regulate the amount of power going through the bulbs. An excess of power won’t necessarily boost the bulb’s tanning ability, but it could cause other damages.
Depending on your level of skill, due to the price of your investment, you may want to leave the tanning bed repair business to those with the right tools and knowledge to get the job done right the first time.
