How to Choose a Skin Care Salon
By Linda Rogers
When you go to a skin care salon, you want to have a relaxing, pampering experience that will leave your skin looking glorious and you feeling happy, refreshed, and beautiful. You don't want to spend a lot of money and wind up feeling disappointed and twice as stressed as you were when you came in. That's why it's important to choose your skin care salon carefully. There are several things you should consider when selecting a skin care salon.
What do Your Friends Say?
One good way to find a skin care salon is to ask your friends about their experiences. Where have they gone? What treatments have they had? Were they pleased with the results? While hearing about their good experiences is certainly helpful, don't forget to ask about any bad experiences as well. Is there any place they would advise you to avoid?
What Does the Skin Care Salon Offer and How Much Does it Cost?
Check with a few salons to get an idea of the average price range for different services in your area. While you certainly want to find a good deal, it's wise to be suspicious of any salon that is significantly under-priced (or over-priced, for that matter).
What Do Your Senses Tell You?
Ask if you can visit the skin care salon before booking any services. Pay attention to your five senses. Does the salon look clean? Is the décor pleasant and relaxing? While mild odors are unavoidable, take notice of any harsh chemical smells that might keep you from enjoying your experience. If you are sensitive to perfumes, ask about fragrance-free treatments.
What sounds do you hear? Ideally, the salon should offer a relaxing atmosphere--music, or sounds of nature, or something similar. The sound of pleasant conversation is also acceptable. Unacceptable is clattering trays, loud, distracting music, staff yelling back and forth, etc. How is the temperature? If you are too hot or too cold during your visit, ask about options for climate control.
What is the Staff Like?
Ideally, a skin care salon technician should be friendly and helpful. He or she should be upfront about the services offered and what they cost. Additionally, salon technicians should be able to answer any questions you have about services or treatments.
If the staff can't answer many of your questions, or if they treat you like a nuisance when you ask questions, walk out the door and find a skin care salon that values your business. Going to a good skin care salon can be a delightful, relaxing experience. Salons can be pricey, though, so make sure to take your time and choose the one that is right for you.
