Rock Climbing Shoes
How To Buy Rock Climbing Shoes
By Brad Jones
A pair of rock climbing shoes is probably the first item and most important one that one will need to purchase in order to better rock climbing performances. There are many considerations that need to be addressed when purchasing a pair of rock climbing shoes. At the very outset, one may need to determine which type of climbing shoe is required and one may use traditional shoes for long climbs, including cracks, chimneys, slabs and face and these shoes normally have a board fast and are not as tight fitting as other climbing shoes and are comfortable and last for many hours of climbing. The sports shoes can be used for face climbing, limited crack climbing as well as a certain amount of gym activity and are slip-lasted and more tightly fitting. One may use performance shoes for overhanging sport routes, competitions as well as bouldering.
Identify And Locate A Climbing Shop
Once the type of rock climbing shoe has been selected one would then need to identify and locate a suitable climbing shop that has a big selection and plenty of sizes and one may also need to try out the shoes in person before actually purchasing the pair of rock climbing shoes. Most decent climbing shops would be sure to have a climbing wall to allow the customer to try out the rock climbing shoes and this is important as the shoes won’t be used merely for walking around in. One should not rush the purchase and take as much time as is required before making a considered decision and taking a friend along may also be useful. Before buying, try out every rock climbing shoe in person and for this you could even make the salesperson’s life rather miserable since you don’t want to do all the lacing and unlacing on your own.
The rock climbing shoes should be snug fitting and this is more important in the case of sports shoes which need to be just that extra bit more snugly. The toes should cram evenly in the shoes and if the toe box feels too tight in one spot and lose in another one can compare the fit with other manufacturer’s shoes. Finally, don’t forget to tightly lace the rock climbing shoes and make sure that the eyes of the lace do not touch. Also, be aware that most shoes do stretch a bit and traditional shoes may be more suitable for those who are new to the sport.
