Keeping Preschool Party Games Entertaining

When left to their own devices, young children are often capable of keeping themselves entertained. However, rather than rely on that, many parents prefer to have a structured set of activities planned when they gather for a celebration. Young children can pick up on board games if they are simple enough and engage their imagination.

However, board games generally won’t hold their attention for more than a few minutes and certainly won’t keep them entertained for the duration of an afternoon party. Their attention span flags after a short time so it is important to choose something more stimulating when deciding on games for a preschool party.

Get Them Moving

Physical activity is the best way to entertain children of this age because it uses all their senses and allows them to interact with the world around them. Preschool party games like Tag or Hide and Seek never go out of style because they are simple, active, and entertaining. Children like to run, play and laugh, so anything that gets them moving will keep them entertained.

The popularity of indoor playgrounds inside of restaurants, which are the site of many a preschool party game, is due in no small part to this diminutive but vocal set of consumers. Parents need not fear that parties held at fast food restaurants will cause their child to gain weight because most children are less excited by the food offered at the restaurant and more by the playground. Exercise is a healthy activity for growing children, so it’s a wonderful opportunity to encourage healthy habits.

Using Music in an Exciting Way

Limbo, where players attempt to lean backwards far enough to shimmy under a limbo pole is a hit as far as preschool party games go, despite the fact that most young children are not experts at it. They get more enjoyment from the silliness of it and falling on the ground while trying to limbo. It is physical comedy that’s accessible to young children.

Musical chairs will have the children racing around in circles trying to avoid being the last one standing when the music ends. Although it is slightly competitive in this way this remains a suitable game for a preschool party because the host of the party can monitor the children to assure that they do not become aggressive. It’s best when everyone can enjoy themselves in a lighthearted way.
