Finding The Right Tripod
By Andrew Kelly
Tripods are a great tool in photography, but they are only as effective as they are compatible with your photography style as well as how compatible any given tripod is with your specific camera. Tripods have to be an individual purchase because everyone has different expectations of the equipment. The first thing you should consider when shopping for tripods is the compatibility with your specific camera model. If you have an older camera that you love you may find that some of the newer tripods just don’t work with it or you may have to buy an extra attachment to ensure that it will sit securely on the tripods.
Once you have found a selection of tripods that your camera will be secure on you will need to consider portability. Portability is not an issue for everyone, but if you plan to be out and about while shooting you will probably want to look at more portable or retracting tripods. There are many varieties that will literally fold up and allow you to carry them over your shoulder. The portable tripods are also easy to set up and tear down so that your clients don’t have to wait on you if you are working with people.
Next you will want to consider the price of tripods. Even the best photographer has a budget to work on, so you’ll need to decide how much you want to spend. You can find very affordable tripods or you can spend a small fortune on them. The price usually goes up with ease of use, versatility, and portability. Don’t be afraid to shop around until you find the tripods that meet all of your needs, price included.
