Massage Parlor: A Place For Illicit Sex?

Any place that caters to customers who wish to receive a massage is known as a massage parlor and very often it is synonymous with a brothel and the term massage at such places is another way of getting paid sexual favors. Massage parlor is a common term used for advertising the service of a sexual nature in many countries as well as regions of the world but an authentic one and a brothel are not always the same. In a brothel, the term massage parlor is a euphemism for obtaining sexual intercourse while in a number of other massage parlors there is provided a range of sexual services performed by the masseur or masseuse. Authentic massage parlors do not provide such services and here, the genitalia are covered by sheets or towels and not touched and the client’s modesty as well as personal boundaries is not transgressed and the masseur or masseuse is usually licensed to practice massaging.

Massage parlors abound in all parts of the world and in countries such as Kenya and in cities such as Nairobi and Mombassa there is a very high incidence of such places and of them, seventy percent are actually brothels. In England and more specially in Northern England, in cities such as Manchester which is known as the massage parlor capital of the UK there are more than 80 parlors that openly advertise sexual services and even the police ignore such activities and the success of such places in Manchester has led to further opening of massage parlors in other parts of Northern England.

Famous for its massage parlors, Thailand has three kinds that include those with common massage performed by parlor girls and the other is the body-course where girls massage men with full naked bodies and the third is called sidelines where women usually sit outside. Such massage parlors are usually open from 2 a.m. until midnight and such places are very attractive to Thai and Asian customers with prices varying according to the age, general appeal, room and facilities and ranges from $10 to $200 for 90 to 120 minutes and may even be more for nude models or B-grade actresses. The US has many massage parlors though they are under scrutiny for illegal prostitution and massage therapy is a growing profession and is finding acceptance among even health care professionals.
