It seems as though everyone wants to lose weight these days, and that is okay however, because there is truly a multitude of options in regards to diets that are available for you to choose from. For instance, there is the low carb protein diet, which is one that has truly become incredibly popular, especially over the last few years in particular.
About the Low Carb Protein Diet
The low carb protein diet is one which involves you eating as few carbs as you can, and then consuming as much protein as you can; this is a diet which was popular first in the 70s, before saturated fat and heart disease became closely associated. Now, this low carb protein diet is once again popular, primarily due to the fact that there is a faster weight loss that can be achieved with it.
As well, with the low carb protein diet, although it may lead to fast weight loss in the short term, much of this may be water loss, and this is because when the body is starved of carbs, it then takes its energy from glycogen stores, and each gram of glycogen actually has 4 grams of water attached; thus, although weight loss looks good, most of it is water and this is important to know.
What is in the Diet
In regards to what this diet consists of, it is based on eating lots of protein such as meat and eggs, but almost no carbohydrate such as potatoes, bread, pasta, or rice – at least for a certain period of time. As well, most versions of this diet recommend large quantities of protein in unrestricted amounts, including red meat, fish, shellfish, poultry, eggs, and cheese, and any foods with large amounts of refined sugar are also forbidden.
According to Skeptics
Furthermore, according to skeptics, this type of diet can actually bring about changes in a dieter’s fat cells, causing these fat cells to actually accumulate even more fat when the person comes off the diet, and it is also a diet that can cause mood changes, such as irritation, frustration, and irritability, and this may result in cravings for high carb foods and fatty snacks.
Overall, it is easy to see both the advantages and disadvantages that are assumed to come from such a diet as this, and so it is ultimately up to you whether or not you are interested in going on the diet yourself.
