Yeast Infections

Yeast infection is a common complaint among women. At least about 70% of women will get yeast infections during their lives. The yeast infection is caused by Candida albicans and other forms of yeast. These yeast types can usually be found in the vagina, rectum and the mouth. Usually you will not experience any problems with these yeast forms.

However when a woman’s body goes out of balance the yeast can grow rapidly. This rapid growth which cause a thick, white discharge is the yeast infection. Even though many women can get repeated yeast infections due to sexual relations, the yeast infection itself is not a sexual disease.

There are different reasons why women will get yeast infections. They all however stem from imbalance in the women’s bodies. These factors can include antibiotic treatments, oral contraceptives, hot weather or even clothes that don’t provide any form of ventilation. These heat factors can increase moisture and warmth. This environment will encourage the growth of the yeast infections.

The other factors that will cause yeast infections can include repeated sexual intercourse within a short time frame. Stress, suppressed immune systems illness including HIV are some of the other yeast infection reasons. Also yeast infections will grow for these reasons as well. The reasons are a high carbohydrate intake which includes refined sugars and alcohol, pregnancy, and diabetes.

A few other causes of yeast infections may be attributed to irritants like powders, soaps, new detergents and other such similar products. Now that you know what the cause of yeast infections are you will need to recognize the symptoms so that you will be able to treat this condition.

Generally the symptoms of yeast infections include vaginal itching, vaginal irritation, there will be a thick, white and possibly curd-like vaginal discharge. You will also find that the other symptoms of yeast infections are redness, swelling, even cracking of the vulvar skin. There will also be a burning sensation during urination. Sometimes you will experience itching of the rectal opening and painful sexual intercourse.

Once you have yeast infections you can treat this condition by using an over-the-counter cream or a suppository like GyneLotrimin or Monistat. Your doctor can provide you with an antibiotic tablet such as Diflucan. These medications for yeast infections are of a varying nature. Some of these will be a single-dose treatment. Other medications are of a week nature.

Yeast infections are an annoying health problem that many women face. There are medications that can short or prevent such infections from occurring. When you know what is causing your yeast infections then you will be able to take the appropriate action.
