Home Security Sign
Home Security Sign: Works to Deter Crime
By Arthur Sneddon
There is a theory that burglars shy away from homes with an alarm system installed and many systems include a home security sign for the front yard, as well as stickers for windows and doors, to warn would-be intruders that an alarm is present. While burglars know some homes only have a home security sign and not alarm, they probably are not willing to take a chance.
Most times a home security sign will give the appearance of being from a professional alarm company, and many are. Then there are the humorous ones, which offer the intruder something to think about. One common one notes the home is protected by a large snake three days a week. You guess which three. Another common home security sign reads that the house is protected by Smith & Wesson; eluding to the possibility the owner has a gun inside.
However, even with signs all around the house, a burglar intent on gaining access may be willing to take a chance. If they enter a door and no alarm sounds they will feel comfortable that the only protection covering the house was the home security sign. Although a tripped silent alarm and the impending arrival of law enforcement may come as a surprise when they realize the sign was real.
Most Alarms Come With Signs
Even if you choose to install a home security system yourself, the majority of the one you can buy will tend to have a home security sign as part of the package. It is recommended it be placed in a conspicuous place where a would-be intruder can see it and make a decision on whether it is real or not. Fake cameras and alarm horns mounted conspicuously around the outside of the home may also serve as a home security sign to burglars.
Most are more likely to believe a horn-shaped speaker mounted near the roof of the house than a metal or plastic sign sticking in the ground. In addition, the image of a camera pointing at the front door may do a lot to serve as a home security sign to potential crime. News programs have interviewed many burglars on their programs and most indicate ant type of home security sign usually has them looking for a residence or business elsewhere as it is not normally worth the risk.
While a real alarm system is probably a better way to go, budget constraints or the difficulty in installing a system may prompt you to installing a home security sign to deter possible crime.
