Home Security Monitoring
Why you Should Consider Home Security Monitoring
By Arthur Sneddon
While it is truly not likely that you will meet with more than one kind of danger in your home, it is also unlikely that you will be able to properly guess which dangers are not going to happen. Therefore, basically the only thing that you can do is plan for all of them in order to prevent as best as possible. Make sure that the chimneys are clear and there are no combustibles near the hot water heater.
Remember to keep the stairs clear of clutter and use good locks; also, cancel the newspapers before you leave on vacation and make sure that the basement drains are clear before it rains. And once you’re sure you’ve done everything possible to ensure that no one can break in, no fire will start and no toxic gases or flood waters will gush through your home, start planning for what you will do when any of it happens.
Sound the Alarms
If something goes wrong, you want a warning. That means setting up burglar alarms, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and other types of sensors. But what happens after one of those alarms goes off? Do you want an alarm to sound to warn the home’s occupants or scare off an intruder? Is it better to sound a silent alarm to you or emergency personnel?
Would you like to receive a phone call or text message when something goes wrong? Or would you like a company to monitor your alarms? This is the series of decisions you make when you arrange your home security monitoring. If someone is usually at home, you might choose to have at least some of the alarms sound at the house.
Certainly, if there is a danger like fire, flood or carbon monoxide, you want the home security monitoring to be done by the people who need to know it’s time to leave the house. If there’s an intruder, though, you might want someone who can safely call the police to be the home security monitoring person.
When most of the home’s occupants are away most of the day, the home security monitoring can be done by a company that can decide whether to call you or the authorities or both. Some security systems automatically dial a set phone number. The system itself does the home security monitoring. You can set it to call you if a panic button is pushed.
Or it can call the fire department if both the smoke detector and temperature sensor go off. You might set it to call a neighbor if an outside motion detector sounds. Different types of security systems present different choices for home security monitoring. Keep that in mind when you choose your system.
