Head Louse Information Guide

Head louse is a concern of many parents, teachers, and guardians of children and teens. It spreads rapidly and sucks blood, two good reasons for worrying about its elimination from yourself and your family. Another problem appears to be their tiny size, which makes it difficult to track them. To deal with head louse effectively, you need to take a look at our head louse information guide.
Tracking the Presence of Head Louse
The primary thing in getting useful head louse information is a way to know how to mark the presence of lice in your child's head. Many head lice do not cause symptoms; some do not cause even itching. It is advisable, therefore, to take a close look into your child's hair off and on, especially after he/she comes from school or play.
Looking at the hair shafts in a strong light usually reveals the presence (or absence) of nits. If nits exist, you'd find them within an inch from the scalp. To make sure those are nits, you can try sliding them up gently with fingers. If they are sticking hard to hair, you are dealing with nits.
Finding Live Head Lice
It is hard to find live lice that move away quickly when hair is disturbed. But your head louse information guide can tell you easy ways to find them. One such method is conditioner and comb method. This includes applying conditioner thoroughly to dray hair such that every hair gets it from tip to root.
Comb the hair using a common household comb. Now comb again with a fine comb like the LiceMeister comb. A plastic nit comb can also be used with a conditioner. Use a paper tissue to wipe the conditioner off the comb and look carefully at it to find if any lice or eggs are present.
Head Louse Information on Treatment
In case, you find your child's head infested with head lice, it is time for treatment. If your child has not been treated for lice before and you find only nits but no live lice, you may use insecticide treatment. However, check twice by using comb and conditioner. If you find only nits for the first time in your child's head and he/she has been treated for lice before, you may not opt for treatment. The nits may be the dead remains from the older infestation.
Resistance of Lice to Insecticides
Head louse information has repeatedly reveled that lice become resistant to certain treatment products. Check for the presence of lice a day after treatment. If you find lice, they are resistant to the product you used. Choose a different product having a different active compound than the previous one.
