GPS Locator Helps Find Lost People And Vehicles
By Jimmy MacLeod

When visiting a strange country or city, it would be nice to be able to push a button on a hand held device and find out exactly where you are. While this may sound a little futuristic, it is available to day with a GPS locator.

For safety and convenience, there are GPS locator units designed to look like wrist watches for children and can help parents keep track of their kids at all times. While some services can connect to a family’s home computer, others are designed to connect to the services system and a child’s location can be learned by a phone call. Their location is available within five feet and the service can provide the nearest street address, or if requested, can contact emergency services.

Still other GPS locator units are tracked by your own cell phone with a simple phone call. You can contact the unit by telephone and its whereabouts is sent back to the cell phone for quick location. As long as your child is carrying the device, you can feel comfortable at being able to locate them anywhere by using the GPS locator unit.

Keep Tabs On Anything Important To You

You can track virtually anything you want to since the size of GPS locator units have grown significantly smaller in the past few years. Your luggage can be located if it does not arrive on the same plane as you did, without the need for the airline to sort through its paperwork. It will not get it to you any faster, but a GPS locator inside your suitcase will let you know where it is located and how fast it is being returned to you.

A GPS locator unit hidden inside your vehicle may provide an extra pair of eyes for the new driver in your household who is trying to earn your trust while driving your car. If you are told they spent the day in school and the GPS locator unit tells you they were at a nearby amusement park, the proper education can be presented to teach lessons on honesty.

Rental car companies who only provide vehicles for operation in certain states can use the GPS locator units to track any vehicle that may have ventured out of their authorized area and appropriate charges can be applied. While many claim this practice is an invasion of their personal privacy, courts have held that the rental company is the legal owner of the vehicle and has all legal rights to know its whereabouts at any given time.
