Golf Swing Drill
Golf Swing Drill Plugs Holes in Your Game
By Angus MacLeod
To find a comfortable and balanced swing there is a golf swing drill that can help you accomplish that. Since rhythm and balance are two key elements to a golf swing, finding a golf swing drill to help find and perfect yours can be a big help while playing the game.
One of the suggested methods of finding balance is to set up at least ten balls on tees about one foot apart. Before approaching the balls, practice swinging slowly with a full back swing and a very slow downswing with you eyes closed. During this golf swing drill you should be able to sense your weight shift as you swing. During the back swing your weight should be on the back foot and you should feel your weight shifting to the front foot during the downswing. Once you have passed the impact point and follow through stop the club and hold its position. Your weight should be mostly on your front foot.
The next phase of this golf swing drill involves hitting the balls, one at a time, again using the slow swing, which represents about a 10 percent swing. Open your eyes for this part as you hit the balls in succession. With only a 10 percent swing used in this golf swing drill the balls will probably only go about 25 or 30 yards.
Once you have hit all 10, set them up again, but in this step of the golf swing drill use about a 20 percent swing and feel the weight shift from your back foot to the front after follow through. Continue this golf swing drill increasing the swing by 10 percent each time. By the time you reach a 100 percent swing, you should be hitting the ball balanced over 80 percent of the time.
Practicing With an Iron
If you don’t want to conduct golf swing drill and have to chase balls all day, you can work another golf swing drill using an iron, such as the seven, and only tees. Place five tees in the ground about four inches apart. Standing at one end of the line of tees start the golf swing drill by swinging the lightly about 10 times before beginning to approach the tees.
When you are ready and feel as though you have established a good rhythm, starting walking forward down the lines of tees, just clipping each one as you approach it. Repeat this golf swing drill 10 times and by the time you are done, you will have established a good rhythm to your swing along with balanced learned in the other golf swing drill.
