There are many things to keep in mind when going on a date, but it would take an extraordinary amount of time to cover every possible scenario. No one can account for every possible outcome. However, there are a few things that come into play on virtually every date so these dating tips will provide some concise and useful advice. While they may seem like common sense, it is the simple things that trip people up the most often.

Most importantly, however, you should be yourself because that’s who landed the date in the first place. If any recommended behavior feels awkward or unnatural to you, it’s obviously not serving you to continue to follow it.

Be On Time

Women have often been counseled by mislead advice givers whose key dating tip is to keep a man waiting or to arrive fashionably late. This long held misinformation has left many a man stranded sitting on the couch for an interminable length of time while his date keeps him waiting. Engrained in our psyches perhaps is the image of a date arriving at a woman’s door to find that she is still drying her hair or applying her makeup.

This doesn’t keep a man in suspense or raise his excitement about the date. Conversely, it leads him to believe that you are high maintenance and have no respect for the timetable the two of you agreed upon. If your date doesn’t feel like you respect him or her any other dating tips are useless because you have already set a negative tone for the rest of evening.

Your Date is Not Your Best Friend

Even if you are, in fact, on a date with your best friend, this dating tip holds true. Your date doesn’t need to hear every minute detail of your life and its most certainly not advisable to be as relaxed around them as you would be with friends. While it may be perfectly acceptable to check out other people when you’re among friends, for example, this is obviously not date-worthy behavior.

A tip for dating friends especially is to make sure you maintain boundaries. Friends may be used to dropping by each other’s houses unannounced but this is not recommended if you’re seeing each other romantically. Relationships need boundaries so that two people can become close without losing their own personal space.
