Built In Coffee Machine
Built In Coffee Machines Can Save You Space
By Wendy Simons
To keep your countertop free of clutter and to possibly avoid taking up an electric outlet, the choice of a built in coffee machine may interest you. Don’t confuse the coffee makers which hang from an attachment on the underside of a cabinet with a built in coffee machine as they are completely different.
Ideally, a built in coffee machine is placed into a spot in the wall of your kitchen and the wiring and plumbing are done inside the wall. A switch will be available to turn the unit off and on and another will fill the machine with water without you having to pour water into it. Typically, on this type of built in coffee machine you pull out a drawer to add coffee and filter, turn it on and it brews your coffee.
There will be no cord to plug in to power your built in coffee machine, freeing that outlet for other appliances, as well as no reservoir to fill with each pot of coffee. There are choices of having a carafe for the finished brew to drip into or a spout from which to draw your cup of coffee. It also takes up no room on the countertop.
Built-In Appliances Are A Worthy Investment
With all the benefits provided by a built in coffee machine, you must realize they don’t come cheap. They can range in price from about $200 to close to $3,000, not including the installation expense. A built in coffee machine is naturally cheaper to install while the kitchen is being built or remodeled. Installation charges will undoubtedly increase when installing one into an already finished kitchen area.
Other models which do not require plumbing or electrical connections may be found for under $200, but installation may be limited to a shelf on a stand-alone cabinet away from a kitchen countertop, but have similar feature to a built in coffee machine without the automatic water-filling capability.
However, considering your budget and if your only goal is to remove the coffee maker from the top of the counter, the type that hang from a cupboard may be the right choice. Inexpensive models can be found for $50 or higher and a typical coffee maker fits into a specially-made mount to hold it off the surface. It is still basically a coffee maker and not a true built in coffee machine.
