Christmas Scene
Transform a Family Room Into a Christmas Scene
By Audrey Sneddon
With the excitement of the holidays comes many beautiful decorations. Traditionally, much of the Christmas celebrations take place in the family room, as it is the central part of a house or an apartment. Thus, there are many ideas as to how, through the art of decorating, a living room can become a wonderful Christmas scene.
Christmas Scene Ideas
There are many different ideas that one can implement into a family room to transform it into a festive Christmas scene. For the most effective Christmas scene, a family room would ideally have window sills, a chimney, and a banister.
Window sills make for wonderful places to put Christmas lights in the form of candles. Take some cotton and line the window sill with it, then, according to how long the window sill is and how many windows are present, equally space out some electric candles for a beautiful effect. Also, for Christmas Eve, if one has children, have them place a carrot or two on the windowsill for Santa’s reindeer.
Of course, in the Christmas tradition, a chimney is the centerpiece of the Christmas celebrations. As such, it makes for the ideal place in which to create a lovely Christmas scene. Make sure that festive stockings are hung off of the mantle piece of the chimney. Also, the mantel piece could be where one chooses to places figurines, such as those of the manger scene, or also those that can be found in various Christmas village collections.
Although some family rooms are set apart from a staircase, those that do have a staircase leading down into it can use the banister to their advantage when creating their Christmas scene. Put a hole punch in the top left-hand corner of holiday cards, and use ribbon to tie them to the poles that make up the staircase banister. Also, one could use a faux garland or string of sleigh bells and have them wind around the banister of the staircase.
These are but some of the many different ways that one could turn a family room into a Christmas scene. It all depends on how big the family room is and what features it includes. For more ideas, consult various home decoration magazines or the internet. With the proper planning, one will have a glorious Christmas scene in their living room for everyone to enjoy.
